genre fit

We fit films into one or more of 43 genres.  Ours expand upon the IMDb's 26 genres.

We usually, not always, place a film in the genre its makers intended in addition to the one or more additional genres into which we think it clearly belongs.  The most frequent instance of the latter is a film intended as a comedy.  American film has lost its touch for good comedy: humor intended for thinking, discerning adults that doesn't have to strain at being funny by being in-your-face as though desperate to remind us it's supposed to be humor.  American film comedy is overwhelmingly prepubescent middle school immaturity: boorish, tasteless, crude.  We'll categorize films as a comedy for convenience in discovering them, but many are also categorized as 'waste.'
